Celebrations (Modified during COVID-19 restrictions)
In the Montessori tradition we celebrate "Life." I feel that it is important to come together as a school community/extended family and celebrate. We are a small school but BIG in heart and we have between 60 and 115 people (including children) attend each celebration. Our celebrations consist of the children singing and dancing, dinner catered in ( no additional charge to the families) and sometimes professional entertainment.
Our celebrations are:
Halloween Celebration - At 5:00 the children get dressed in costumes, sing songs and parade around the beautiful yard followed by a yummy dinner of lasagna, bread and salad catered by Toto's restaurant in San Mateo.
Thanksgiving Celebration - A Time to Give Thanks - The children prepare "Stone Soup" and fruit salad by cutting all of the vegetables and fruit we also have turkey available. The parents bring bread and/or dessert. The children wear simple costumes and sing several songs. Then we all hold hands in a BIG circle and sing our snack song giving thanks. We usually have professional entertainment available. This is an offsite celebration due to the weather and the number of people attending.
Winter Celebration - Our Winter Celebration is held at Chevy's Restaurant in Foster City. The children have simple costumes, sing and dance as well as present their parents with a gift. The songs that the children sings are diverse and reflective of the season. A buffet style Mexican dinner is provided.
Mother's Day Celebration - Spring is in the air so we have our Mother's Day celebration at Bright Beginnings. The children sing several songs in English and Spanish and do a dance. Since it is so close to Cinco de Mayo we have a Mexican dinner catered by La Cumbre Mexican Restaurant. The children present a special gift to the moms.
Father's Day / Graduation Celebration - This is our biggest event! We have over 100 people in attendance! The backyard / play area is transformed (by Mr. Jerry) into a Hawaiian Luau. Its like you are in Hawaii! Everyone comes wearing Hawaiian attire and each is presented with a flower lei. It is also graduation for those going to kindergarten. The children graduate in caps and gowns and looks so cute. Before the graduation ceremony all of the children perform 4 dances in costumes then sing several Father's Day songs. The graduates change and perform a dance and then graduation takes place with tears of happy and sad in the Aloha feeling. Dinner is then catered by Panda Express and professional Hawaiian dancers perform. This is a celebration to remember.
